The Rhythm Reader is designed for students of all levels, for individuals or groups, and for any instrument. It can be used by a pre-reading student to clap out a single line, by a group of students simultaneously playing four different lines, clear up to someone improvising pitches on their instrument, or playing different lines with different hands at the same time. The book is not an instruction manual (Use You’ve Got Rhythm! for that), but rather a tool for students to gain practical experience reading rhythms from the very simple to the very complex.

The goal is not just to give students practice in figuring out and reproducing rhythms, but to open up to them the exciting world of pulse and rhythm and its role in music.
